...they take things very easily, and have no all-too-great struggles. Stockholm itself, Sweden's capital, is a magnificent city, entirely set in water. Everywhere you go, there is water and there are ships. The city is very clean, has magnificent buildings and very good theatres. I did not do a great deal, as I had to save, but I was never bored. I made very good progress with the language in Stockholm. When the confusion in the shop grew ever greater I gave notice, and at the same moment the police came and expelled me. So I travelled on to Malmo, and from there to Copenhagen, which I now had a chance to look over - a fine harbour city. The fish market was interesting. The crossing to Germany was somewhat stormy, but I liked it very much. In Berlin I visited Salborn, where I was given a fine welcome, though the circumstances were difficult. By way of Frankfurt and Heidelberg it went home, and in the first hour of my coming of age I stepped over the threshold of my father's house. I had now been away from home continuously for nearly three years.

Mit der Sprache mach(te) ich sehr gute Forfschritte in Stockholm. Als das Durcheinander(?) im Geschäft immer größer wurde kündigte ich und zur gleicher Zeit kam auch die Polizei und wies mich aus(?). So reiste ich denn nach Malmö von da nach Kopenhagen, die ich mir nun ansah, eine schöne Hafenstadt. Intressant war der Fischmarkt. Die Überfahrt nach Deutschland war etwas stürmisch, aber es gefiel mir sehr gut. In Berlin besuchte ich Salborn(?) [eine] feine Aufnahme wurde mir zu Teil aber die Verhältnisse waren [illegible] Über Frankfurt, Heidelberg gings nach Hause, wo ich in der ersten Stunde meiner Volljährigkeit über die Schwelle meines Vaterhauses trat. Ich war nun ununterbrochen d.h.(?) nahe 3 Jahre nicht mehr zu Hause gewesen.
